This is a fibreglass chopped strand matting or csm for short, it is the most widely used fibreglass in the u.k, it is used for fibreglass flat roofing as it has alot of benfits that work well in the building, ponds, repairs, marine. c.s.m is available in different thickness and strengths, it is a cheaper option than othe fibreglass variations, it is a material that can lend itself to various shapes and can even be cut or torn and then ovelapped. the chopped strand matting is used with a resin, when the resin is applied it form a laminate, the laminate is a tough lightweight very resistant sheet, fibreglass chopped strand matting is used widely for fibreglass flat roofing, it is the reinforcement and the resin is like a binder that then create the laminate, sometime the term G.R.P is used, this stands for glass reinforced plastic, although its not technically true as resin is not a plastic it is a great explination of the end result.

This shows a roll of chopped strand, it can be by the metre as seen here, by the roll, this is a 600g grade and has approx. 54sqm on a full roll, most trade people buy a roll as it is far more economical. the most popular c.s.m is 450g and 600g, it can be used in multiple layers, it is often used with polyester resin.

Fibreglass chopped strand mat is made up of glass strands randomly laid and held together with a binder, either emulsion bound or powder bound. In the case of Polyester and Vinylester resins an Emulsion bound mat is used and in the case of an Epoxy resin a powder bound mat would be used. The binder would then dissolve in the chosen Resin and this would make the Fibreglass Matt (CSM) conform into the shape of the object being laid up on, most commonly the Glass mat sheets are laid on top of each other in layers combined with a resin to form a thicker / stronger part as part of a GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) molding.
